Eliminate the Impossible

He may need to tell Naib the undercover work is not, perhaps, his strong suit.

He is trying, though, really. He flits around the party making small talk, laughing at the right times, offering his hand to ladies from the right families to try to ply them with the right questions. He takes what he hopes are surreptitious notes (though it can be hard to remember without his usual crutch of Mr. Dickens’ recordings), and catalogs as much as he can about the party and its guests. He’s a good investigator, he reminds himself, and he knows what he’s doing. The masks make it harder to identify guests, and the modern house is a siren song, but Luca is a professional. He won’t let Naib and Emma or the agency down.

Of course, because nothing can ever go smoothly and according to plan, he’s so focused on trying to figure out who on his list he still needs to talk to that he nearly backs into the host.---Luca investigates a party thrown by a certain well-known inventor on behalf of the Orpheus Detective Agency. Along the way, he gets a little side tracked by the host. Written for AlvaLuca Week 2023 day 1 - detective.
