The Heart Is An Arrow -

In a world where nearly everybody is meant to have a soulmate, is there room for love that breaks the rules? When Wylan van Eck gets kicked out by his father, and disinherited from the family business, he crawls into a strange new city and finds a job behind a bar, knowing all too well he's got no chance for happiness ahead of him. Why, then, doesn't he do the sensible thing and turn down the advances of charming local barfly Jesper Fahey, when he knows there's no future for either of them down that road? This fic is set in a modern, Soulmates AU of the Grishaverse, and it explicitly takes aim the the concept of soulmates as a necessary or even desirable way to find a lasting relationship. Why, indeed, should the universe know any better than ones own heart?
