Tommy never really forgot what Joel was like as a father. It was just hard to remember him like that after a while. So it was easier for him just to pack it away in his mind and pretend his brother had never had a child.When even that wasn’t enough, when it got to the point that Tommy couldn’t even look at Joel and see his brother anymore, he knew he had to leave. So he did, and while a part of him mourned the loss, another part realized that Joel had been dead since the day they had buried Sarah in an unmarked grave in a Texas field full of wildflowers.So he packed his bags and joined the Fireflies, knowing he would never see his big brother or Sarah’s dad again because he’d already been gone for ten years. Tommy had just been traveling with a ghost for all that time.TLDR: Uncle Tommy watching his brother become a father again.
