Change came while Atsushi was asleep. He woke, slowly, as he always did, to the ground shaking. It jostled his entire body, making old wounds ache and sting. He wondered why they hadn’t healed yet… probably the lack of food…Light showered in, falling onto the wall in front of him and onto his back. If he focused hard enough, he could feel its warmth. How long has it been since he has felt warm? Why did the door open? Were they finally going to end his suffering?Footsteps sounded behind him, walking towards where he lay, unmoving. He closed his eyes, before slowly opening them once more. He hoped his death would at least be quick.The footsteps stopped. And then a whispered, “Jinko?”—or: Atsushi got captured and the aftermath was messier than the ADA thought it could ever be.
