Summary
Neil caught sight of it at the centre of a clearing, and a terrible longing went through him. A ring of glossy red mushrooms with raised white spots, half hidden by the grass along the tree line.Closer and closer, he stepped towards the ring, as if the circle had its own gravity. Poised at its edge, he stared into its still centre without crossing its boundary. He knew better. His mother taught him better. His father’s hunt would be here soon.Would it be so bad, to stray into the circle?
