Summary
It was winter in Olathe, dry as a bone. Cold enough for a sweatshirt, but just barely. The moment you started moving, sweat would break out, but that didn't deter Dustin. The forest path's shade offered some relief, making it bearable enough to give Buddy a piggyback ride on the way home. Despite the comfort, he moved slowly, every step crunching loudly on the path scattered with dried leaves and twigs. Frenzied little brown birds and fleeing squirrels added to the natural commotion. Buddy rested her head on Dustin's shoulders, arms wrapped around his neck for support.
