Summary
Merlin is still quite new to Camelot and thus has yet to learn the ins and outs of the castle. Every other person in the castle knows of Uther Pendragon's crippling fear of cats. When Merlin brings a cat into the castle, things get slightly ugly. This isn't Merthur because it's set at the beginning of season 1, but a few little things are sprinkled in. You can interpret it as the start of their feelings for each other or platonic it's up to you what kind of connection they have.
