Echoes

Levi hummed to himself softly. Acknowledging the importance of this day and what meaning it held for him while trying desperately to ignore the random creaks from behind him. The soft echoes of voices once lost to his ears floating within the corridors and the random knocks of solid objects meeting hard places in unseen corners.“Ghosts aren’t real.” He whispered calmly to himself as he trekked up the winding stone staircase.Those who were lost will never be seen or heard again. It’s hardened fact that once they’re gone, they remain lost to those who will miss them until their light finally goes out too. If the living could hear from the dead; loss wouldn’t feel so tremendous. The pain he’s carried all these years would have no purpose and this day… This dark, and calm day would have no meaning. It’s all a fantasy shaped up to scare people or give the false hope that those who have perished still remain in some ethereal way. Wrapping their fingers around your shoulder to help you stand through this shitty and fleeting nightmare while they continue to remain unseen.It isn’t real. Even if a small part of Levi wished it was.
