Summary
“Did you love her?” Black Swan asks after a while of stewing in silence, her tone neutral but… caring. Acheron wonders if she’s been wanting to ask this question for a while now.
Acheron does not hesitate. She has always known, ever since Frebass left this world, and well when she was alive.
She remembers her beloved as a warm fire. Achingly so. How her smile outshone the sun, her gaze warm and inviting, as well as endearingly roguish. She showed Acheron how precariously she lived, teetering above the dangerous wicks of death (the path of the Trailblaze, she once said). Until it engulfed her in the end, and left Acheron with nothing but fragmented memories.
“Entirely.” She answers, and can’t help the way her voice breaks.
Acheron can't move on, even when her chance at escaping such painful sorrow stands before her.
