Summary
Crowley's doing his best not to worry about what Aziraphale and the Metatron are discussing. He tries to make a plan for what to do when Aziraphale gets back, which ends up different than he originally planned based on some good advice from Nina and Maggie. But the Metatron's plans, along with Aziraphale's shortcomings, work against his heroic attempt to say how he feels, and in the end nothing he can say or do can prevent the course they've been set on.Crowley put his sunglasses back on. He tried not to see the hopeful, soft, sweet, open look Aziraphale was giving him. It would have been, under other circumstances, an invitation to the intimacy he wished they could have had. If it had been coupled with different words, a different decision, a different situation... he would have leaned in and kissed the angel, with that look in his eyes.
But, that hadn't happened. Crowley stepped away and told Aziraphale, "Good luck." He meant it, really. Because the angel was going to need it.
