Summary
If you'd asked him before, Shane wouldn't have said he'd be a good dad. Not with all the issues that seemed to hold him back. Any attempted relationship fell apart when they realized how much effort it took to deal with him on his bad days, so he'd assumed having kids just wasn't in the cards. It wouldn't have been fair to a kid, anyway. And then came the day when a cop arrived at his door, holding the hand of a little girl. Shane barely heard the woman's explanation, something about his best friend and his wife and an accident, before he found himself in charge of the girl. His goddaughter. Shit. He could barely keep himself alive, how the hell was he expected to take care of a toddler who could barely walk on her own? But then she’d looked up at him with those eyes, the same ones that had sparkled with mischief when his best friend came up with some plot in college, and something about her face like the woman that put up with the two of them for so long.
