Summary

Percy couldn’t stop talking. “I’ve seen photos of dead campers at Walmart.” Because Walmart had a section for missing kids and even though the parents had been informed that their child was dead some of them still held out hope that their kid wasn’t dead.“I go grocery shopping around every two weeks but I still pop in there for things I forgot or ran out of too early.” Or he had forgotten about the tomatoes in his fridge and then they had perished and so he had to buy some again because he needed it for a recipe he was trying to teach Annabeth. “And I see those photos every single time.”There were nights where Percy got Amber Alerts on his phone and he just sat there wondering. Was it a monster who had taken the child? Was it a satyr trying to get the child to camp? Was-Percy abruptly closed his eyes.“There’s not going to be photo for him, Chiron.” Percy didn’t say that because Ned’s father was dead and thus couldn’t create a photo for his son even if he wanted to. He said that because Thanatos would have to take Ned from Percy’s cold dead hands. The son of Mars was Percy’s now. Had been Percy’s for years.
