Summary
“This will cure him of this illness. I cannot promise he won’t get sick again in a month or a year or five. I’ll not have you saying I welched on our deal when I can’t control the future.”

Turning, the witch gathered the bottles up and put them in a box. She picked up the rose, as well. “You have one week to make what arrangements you need. Be at my gate by sunset the seventh day. What’s your name?” she asked, holding the box out to him.
“James Barnes. Everyone calls me Bucky.” He reached out to take the box and she handed it to him, then stabbed the tip of his third finger with one of the thorns from the rose. He jerked his hand back in surprise.
She held the rose up and he saw a drop of blood clinging to the thorn. “Seven days, James Barnes. Come back to me or I’ll come and find you.”
