All he knows is that they’re now standing in the forest and his muscles are shaking with exertion and Pearl is still on his back and she’s crying into his shoulder and he can feel her blood soaking into his shirt-“Scott…” she cries as they crest over a hill and begin to descend down towards the river. He pauses and helps her further up onto his back, assuming she had started to slip. Getting her through the river is gonna be tough, maybe if he makes a boat-“Scott, please just let me die…”-----or Scott saves Pearl from Lizzie, but not before she gets hurt. Unable to do much to help, Scott finds help from an unlikely ally.
