What We Needed

Oil stings at the corners of my optics. Always so stubborn, until the very end. “Optimus…No…Orion…I…I promise.” “Now please, please rest.” His scarlet chest gives a final vigorous shake, rattling the earth beneath as if to warn the departure of a great leader. Then, his head slumps to one side and I watch. I watch those two brilliant, cerulean orbs flicker away into oblivion. No longer will I ever see them burn with that fathomless kindness. The same kindness that I saw in him the first time our optics met.
