They came to this restaurant every year to do this present exchange. Coming on the 2nd had become a bit of a tradition; when they’d met up the first time, Mia had been busy on New Years’ Day (imagine that! Something about Mia’s new understudy, apparently. From what she’d heard, Maya thought he sounded annoying), so they’d had to come on the 2nd instead.
