"It's an interesting story..." The brunette with green eyes had been staring at you for what felt like two hours, her gaze unblinking. She casually twirled the stem of her wine glass, the deep red liquid swirling lazily inside, a hint of boredom in the way she moved."I'm sorry.. We should be getting to know each other, and here I am talking about.. someone else." You reply, feeling the sting of tears threatening to spill. The air conditioning in the upscale restaurant seems to cut through you, a chill that digs into your skin, intensifying the ache."It's alright," she says, rolling up the sleeves of her shirt with a casual grace."And you... How was your past relationship?" you ask, your grip tightening on your hands. Your nails dig into your skin, the pain sharp, a quiet distraction as you focus instead on the television behind her.She responds, but you can't bring yourself to look at her. Not when she... ran across the field, and you could no longer be there for her.
