Summary
In the melancholic dreamscape of Verlaine's mind, he is haunted by the presence of Rimbaud, a ghostly figure who once consumed his heart and soul. As Verlaine desperately reaches out to the fading vision of Rimbaud, the two exchange words that reveal the tragic truth—Rimbaud is dead, his life force given to Verlaine before his departure. Despite Rimbaud’s insistence that none of this is real, Verlaine cannot let go. As the boundaries between dream and reality blur, Verlaine pleads for Rimbaud to remain in his mind, to stay with him in the world of sleep. With a quiet acceptance, Rimbaud agrees, but the question lingers—what is left when the person you love is nothing more than a shadow?
