Summary
The rediscovery of the One Ring of Power in the Third Age of Middle Earth, the rise of Sauron, the White Council's assault on Dol Guldur and the Battle of Five Armies, as seen from the perspective of the Valar. Much is clarified concerning the ways in which the Valar are constrained in their actions in Middle Earth, especially in fighting the servants of Melkor who remained after the end of the First Age. Some surprising information is revealed about the nature of the Ring and the sources of its power, which has bearing on the actions of the Valar.
