Summary
"Mhm. I was kind of wondering — don't you think they'd want to know? They're probably worried about him. I sent my mom that letter, but Avid…" she trails off for a moment, sighing. "We're the only ones who know what happened to him."
"You're a detective," Shelby eventually continues. "I was thinking that maybe we should find them and tell them what happened. Maybe, since he had that magical sickness, they'd believe it? Or we could just tell them that he died a normal way. An accident. Just so they don't have to keep wondering if he'll ever come home. And we'd get to learn a little more about his life, you know?" She looks small, soft, and plaintive, like a chipmunk rooting around in the snow for food.
Or: a few months after escaping Oakhurst, Drift and Shelby look for Avid's surviving family.
