Summary
The sound of gunfire has been filtering through, muffled, as though underwater, but it doesn’t rouse Grantaire until it is closer; just below him, and then even closer than that, seeming to be right beside his head. Even then, he doesn’t awaken fully. Stirs slightly, subconsciously crawls further into the dark corner and out of view, but he doesn’t open his eyes.
Not for a few moments. He doesn’t jolt awake until there’s silence.
