Summary
“I…” Shane started.
“We are not…” Ilya cut him off. Ilya thought frantically, what would make Shane leave the balcony... and quickly? He wanted to scream: “We are not alone, Shane! We are not safe!” But knowing Shane, that would make him dig his heels in if he thought Ilya was in danger.
So, Ilya tried another tactic. He whispered, “We. Are. Not. Anything. Not here.”
He turned slightly toward Shane to see if his words had had their intended impact and to quickly check if his handlers were still in their seats. He noted that they were talking to each other, eyes on Shane. Then one pulled out his phone and walked into the hallway.
“Shit,” Ilya thought.
They were out of time.
Or
Ilya’s experience before, during, and after Shane confronted him in Sochi. What if the sentence “we aren’t… anything” was really supposed to end “we aren’t… alone.” As Ilya rushed Shane off that balcony, how much danger were they really in? Completed work that will be posted in 4 parts.
