“Well,” Gerard said, his eyes closed as he focused on the microphone, too afraid to look up. “My boyfriend is in a band.”
“I play guitar while he sings Lou Reed,” Frank chimed in for the duet, making Gerard feel more confident as he placed his hands around Frank’s shoulders. “I’ve got feathers in my hair.”
“I’m into beat poetry,” Gerard continued, opening his eyes to the audience. “Our jazz collection is rare, and he can play almost anything.”
“Yeah, because this is our song.” They finally locked eyes. “Because he’s the Brooklyn Baby.”
“Because I’m the Brooklyn Baby,” the red-haired boy said, then looked at his boyfriend.
