Dunn Keyes had been a little strange for as long as you'd known her, or maybe that was just Boston.

It’s easy to decide not to be Wyatt. It’s harder by far to figure out who to be now. (12 scenes of 100 words, following Violet Mason and 27 days on the Flowers.)

“Fresh from a parallel reality,” Dunn says, as cheerily as she can. It comes out a little plastic, a little bit too pop star, and she has to force herself to reel it in. “Although I guess every team had some changes. I have it on good authority I used to be a robot.”Dunn Keyes, Basilio Mason, infinite realities, and what's in a name.

When Dunn Keyes is twenty-two and a half years old, a decree is passed in a universe she does not know. It tears a rift open in front of her on the stage mid-performance, and to the audience, it must look like more special effects. There is a woman who looks like her on the other side; they stare at each other in recognition and confusion, in surprise. And then something digs like a hook into Dunn’s gut, and it pulls them through the space despite her protests. The girl, the other her, trips over onto the floor of the stage.(An origin story and character study for an alternate take on Dunn Keyes.)

The Scorekeeper draws their coat tighter around their shoulders as they pick their way across the tall grass. The ground is still halfway muddied from the late-offseason snow; their boots sink in uncomfortably and their footsteps make no sound. The ground feels like it will swallow them whole.(The Scorekeeper, and Dunn Keyes, and being a person in a world that does not want you to be a person.)

The Garden is becoming familiar with the taste of saltwater. Where a Crab steps, the damp death seeps into the soil, drying out the roots and browning the edges of the leaves. The feeling of something old and cracked and dead and empty, the feeling of ghosts and hauntings. The Garden knows, in so much as a place can know, that Brock Forbes will not be any easier. Even so, it reaches out once again.(On Brock Forbes and the Garden.)

"If you ask any astrophysicist worth their salt, they’d tell you that black holes are full of matter. Densely packed stuff that defines all of existence, maybe, or a singularity where time and space stretch out endlessly on all sides. They’d go on and on about what has to happen to create it, this tiny, infinite nothing that is also everything, and you would nod along and sip your drink and pretend to understand."I would argue that the black hole isn’t any of that. If I had any scientists on the phone, anyway, I would tell them that their big ball of matter is more like a lazy river. If I swim up, I can see all the way back to when I was a kid. I can see my mother handing me a piece of bread, some grapes, a bit of cheese broken off from the rind. If I swim forward – Well. I haven’t tried that. But I think if I went far enough, maybe I would see the day I die. Assuming that ever happens; I haven’t decided yet."(On Beck Whitney, the black hole, and the things that haunt her. Part of the Blaseball Zine Jam 2022's WIP Amnesty zine.)

“Salt,” Brock says. When Allan looks up at him, confused and alarmed, he repeats it. “It’s salt. Do that a couple times a day, and add it to your conditioner. Kills the roots.”Allan gapes. “You’re seasoning me?!”(On grass, and hair, and last resorts.)

Brock walks with purpose through a land he has learned well. The Garden parts for him, easily, readily. When branches brush his shoulders in greeting, he allows it; there is understanding. The wilted flowers at the base of every tree are carefully collected, along with other pieces of memorabilia damaged by rain and wind and growth. He will save some; he will dispose of others.Sometimes, he brings company. But even on days without them, he is there.(Until he dies, anyway.)

The stadium intercom flips on, and a voice booms out, “Rogue Umpire incinerated Hiroto Cerna!”Allan waits. Per knows there’s a next part to this sentence. Someone will be a replacement. There's always a replacement. But nobody is moving.(Allan Kranch joins the Boston Flowers. It's less exciting than it sounds.)
