The Trinity Prophecy - Marissa Kinzel

polyphony

by espurred

While many enjoyed the theater at its loudest, at its most spectacular, with resounding voices, ringing music, dances so intense each footstep shook the building to its very foundation… While many enjoyed much of that, Neros preferred it when it was quiet.

An Unventful Afternoon

by Jaspen

"Don’t you think you’ve baked enough? There's enough for everyone to have... two of everything, I’m sure.”“But what if they want a third, Leof? What then? People just going hungry when I could have prevented it—Oh my god, I’m turning into my grandmother.”Based on a writing prompt I found online.

What it Means to Burn

by Jaspen

“Leof... ” Her voice was broken, pained, scared in a way he’d never heard. It compelled him forward. His fingers barely brushed the charred bark of her shoulders before she crumbled; her warm eyes now cold, disappearing into the ash.  ---Leof awoke with a start, choking down a scream as his blunt nails tore holes in the sheets of his bed. His breathing was heavy, and despite the darkness, everything was cast in a medium-ish glow. Sitting up, he rubbed his face with both hands, trying to calm the tension vibrating out of him through his fingers. Blazes, that one was... He stood up, running fingers through his loose hair. His sheets were singed. He focused on the fact he’d need to repair the holes so that he didn’t think about cause and effect and the sheer terror he felt at their correlation. He could hear talking down the hall, which either meant Tanza had just arrived or Aldebrande was stalling her so he could get a little more sleep. With a sigh, he pulled his hair back and scrubbed the still warm igneous rock off his face. As much as he hated politics, he was actually looking forward to being out of his head for a little while.

The Properties of Ice

by Jaspen

The cracks splintered up—past his palm, his wrist, spiderwebbing across his forearm in what was both forever and no time at all.His vision tunneled, the bright light shining through the cracks. When had he lost his glove? It didn’t matter. The magma titan didn’t seem to think it was so important, and was coming to crush him anyways. He could hear Anthy’s voice distantly as light overcame him. It didn’t really hurt at all.

The Influence of a Twilight Moon

by Jaspen

The thing about Umbros that made it dangerous to surfacers was not the cliff faces that rounded every cornered path, or the army of the undead he hadn’t amassed so much as corralled into one identifiable location. The gigantic pit that led them to his domain wasn’t even a real problem—it was guarded well, and the people who lived close enough for it to be a problem knew to keep away of any dangerous ledges. No, the real problem was the darkness. Light was swallowed whole all but a few feet from the passage, and as such, any surfacers who dared a trip to the afterlife rarely found their way back.
