Curumo met his Aiwendil for the first time in the gardens of Yavanna, a crown of flowers in his hair, whistling to the birds in the trees, his golden smile brighter than the light of the sun herself. Gandalf met his Belladonna for the first time in the gardens of her father's house, a crown of flowers in her hair, laughing with her many siblings. - Radagast the Brown disappears in TA 3018, never to be seen again. Saruman, deceiver and betrayer, is the last to see him, before his end. Belladonna Baggins, remarkable and loving wife to the late Bungo Baggins, dies of grief, eight years after her husband's passing. Gandalf the Grey returns to his mission eight years before the death of his beloved Belladonna, leaving behind a wife and son, and laying his hobbitish illusion to rest forever. Bilbo Baggins, son of one Bungo Baggins, goes on an adventure. Since then, he has not been without his father, until his last days, and the beginning of the War of the Ring.

The Golden Wood hosts many secrets. Saruman is determined to unravel them all.*** The witch, to her credit, let only the most discrete of her kind reside in her woods. Upon reflection, that should have been a clear sign of her secrets. That ring on her finger, that heart she keeps hidden… What other treasures was she staining with her unworthy hand? And, perhaps more importantly, to what end?

Mairon smiles. It is a sharp smile he has designed for himself, hard edges like a chisel. What place does such sharpness have here? Curumo wonders. Among Aulë’s blunt objects and Yavanna’s soft blossoms? “Ah, but what Maia of Aulë dreams of flight? Where are you wandering, Curumo, beyond the ascribed limits of your forge? I am amazed that you dare.”/ Mairon, Aulë’s favourite servant, aspires to higher things. Curumo wants.
