When the Musics Over
by eccorando
Dorian ‘Zib’ Zibowski. A tortured artist trapped in the declining Lackadaisy cabaret. Wasting his days away, he is tormented by the fact that his chance at fame has long passed him by. On the edge of letting his hopelessness consume him, a final vestige offers him one last shot to make a name for himself.Desperate to jump on this chance for that mythical future he holds dear to his heart, he pours all that’s left of his shattered soul into his closing venture. With his most trusted musical partner, Sy Smolarek, by his side, they push past their estranged, yet impassioned, history hoping to craft some of Zib’s finest jazz-like tunes.Despite taking this single step closer to the promised land, he finds himself incapable of producing that passion he once had and lost. An inescapable element is missing from the broken puzzle that he is. Clutching for that void piece, Zib can’t help but suffer his damaged psyche, ruminating on and on as he falls further into the deepest recesses of his tragic mind. But when the music’s over and the lights finally go out … a gentle sound shows him exactly what he's been looking for.
