by ladyofthenorthernlights

Valandil has loved Isildur for as long as he can remember, but as they set sail for Middle-earth he is faced with the reality of losing him before he has the chance to put his feelings into words.Consider this the Isildur/Valandil season 1 extended edition, complete with plenty of new scenes and an ending that doesn't make me want to throw myself into the sea.

As Valandil falls to his knees, the rough tug of the sword leaving his body is but momentary pain before his sight begins to dim and breathing begins to seem less important. He is vaguely aware of his captain’s cries, his hands desperately pressing the shrine’s athelas against Valandil’s wound, as if that will be enough to turn back the tide. Valandil is sure that it will not be, but he is not afraid. He is a sailor and a true soldier of Númenor, and he goes now to his rest with his father, with Ontamo, and with Isildur.(He feels something at the last moment – more than the last comfort of a beloved captain he had known all his life, who had been as much a father figure as his own had been – and a homeless voice whispers in his mind: king.)[TROP 2x05 Fix-it-Fic for Valandil specifically]

Valandil sat up, rubbing rough hands over his face. He could pick out the few tents that had survived, the Queen's center most, with Lord Elendil's right beside hers. The shabby remains of their force were camped on the beach, waiting for their ships to come in the morning. It would be a pitiful return to their island, their tails tucked between their legs.
