In the following stupidly long and idiotic essay I will explain why Park Jimin makes me want to die every time he breathes. I will do so by using examples of times when my heart stopped for a second too long and I felt like I was going to pass out. Enjoy.

An essay on the subject of the Wen remnants. Who knew that they were non-combatants? Were the sects really the victims of a misinformation campaign as much of fandom argues, or did they all willingly go the Burial Mounds to massacre a group of people who they knew were innocent? I will argue the latter. A close reading of the novel text proves that the sects were all either well aware of who the Wens under Wei Wuxian's protection were, or made an active choice not to know.

Naturally, meeting Jeongguk was unplanned and I never really saw it coming, but the voice at the back of my mind is whispering that, perhaps, all of it wasn’t a coincidence; that that day Jeongguk dropped his coffee all over himself was written somewhere in the vast code of the universe. Whatever the case it may be, this essay might be three years late, but finally, here’s my response to a very eloquent and biased essay I had the pleasure of reading at three am on a chilly night.

Star Trek: The Original Series+1
by WeirdLittleStories
A number of people write TOS stories because Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are so iconic or so delicious or so wonderful, even though their understanding of Star Trek comes mostly from The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine or another of the Star Trek series. To keep your story within TOS boundaries, here are a few things to keep in mind. This is an essay, not a story, and it's about the television show, not about the movies featuring the same cast. (The movies were somewhat different than TV-show-era Star Trek; this essay is only about the show.) Just Added: Chapter 2, on how to make Kirk and McCoy talk like Americans, even if you aren't one. :-)

Twilight Series - Stephenie Meyer+3
by 100indecisions
My no-kidding master's thesis, the tl;dr version of which can be summarized as "Twilight sucks, but not because teenage girls love it or because it contains sparkling vampires". Actual abstract: "Despite being generally received as wholesome entertainment, Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series implicitly supports rape culture by subtly reinforcing dangerous ideas about romance and relationships. In order to demonstrate the pervasive nature of these attitudes at work in the Twilight series, this paper first describes the concept itself and the crucial features of the beliefs that support it. Dracula—and, more importantly, the prevailing cultural perceptions about Stoker’s novel—functions as an important intertext for Twilight thanks to its status as one of the earliest popular vampire novels, and I use it to show how these attitudes can normalize certain assumptions about sexuality in a context generally assumed to involve a clear sexual interpretation. My examination of the books in Meyer’s modern vampire narrative takes this idea further, arguing that the same attitudes applied to Dracula provide an even more subtle representation of the mindsets that comprise and perpetuate rape culture."

(NON-FICTION FANWORK) Dungeon Meshi is full of vivid and complex world-building. When you take all the information in the manga as a whole, there are clear and consistent patterns in what real world cultures the author was inspired by, and how she arranges them on the Dungeon Meshi world map.In this essay, I will catalog and explain every real world cultural reference I was able to identify in the manga, including character and location names, historical and mythological references, clothing, and of course food! WARNING: This essay is full of spoilers for the entire Dungeon Meshi manga, all the extra materials, and the anime. Disturbing and violent moments that happen in the series are described, discussed and analyzed. The essay also discusses real-life world history and mythology, which contains sensitive subjects like war, death, slavery, abortion, child killing, sexual assault, incest, and bestiality. These topics are mentioned in an academic context, and not described. Please proceed with caution if this concerns you.

The fact that Whitebeard went to War for Ace but not for any of his other nakama is bullshit and it's actually not surprising that Squard and the others actually believed that he could have made a deal with the marines to save Ace, and in this essay I will- While Whitebeard presented himself as a father to all his nakama, as someone who would not let anyone get away with hurting those under his care, he repeatedly failed to do, which ultimately led not only to his death, but also to the shattering of his crew. In this essay, I will examine in more detail just what makes someone an Emperor, what their roles and duties are, and just how Whitebeard failed in upholding those. I will then examine the particular chain of failures that culminated with Portgas D. Ace’s death, Whitebeard’s own death, and the annihilation of the Whitebeard Pirates as a crew.
