He'd had a favorite cow--Henry--and made sure to milk and brush her every day. Ever since Henry was a calf, he wanted to learn how to care for her hooves so they wouldn't grow out too much. He hadn't been alive for the Great War. It had ended two years before he was born, but he heard horror stories, and was more than thankful he wouldn't have to deal with getting drafted. His life wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't the worst! His parents weren't overly strict, and the worst punishment he ever got was being sent on outhouse duty, which was typically reserved for his father. He was sure he'd have gotten worse if he touched a drop of anny before he turned 15. (Didn't even taste that good when his father offered him a drink at the age of 16. He supposed it tasted better the more you drank.) Then the Great Depression hit.(Or, the ghost fic where Bench Trio each die in the same house ~30 years apart. The plush red carpet that stretched away into the high arc of the entryway ferried in couples, stunning ball outfits as brightly colored as the feathers of an exotic birdbeast.And Prompto stood there, at the base of the steps, gaping up at it all like an idiot.It took him five solid minutes before he could convince himself to move, and with each step, he became more certain that he was dreaming. No place this beautiful could actually exist. There was no reality in which someone would hold the door wide for him and say, "Right this way, sir."

They’re always going off about aesthetics and shit when all Bakugou wants is comfortable, streamlined clothing that doesn’t make him look like an idiot. Surveying himself in the mirror, his pale hair like a firework itself against his dark clothing, he wonders vaguely if his mother was right. Does it suit him? Will Kirishima like it? “Don’t be stupid,” he mutters to himself, folding his hands into the long sleeves. It’s so embarrassing, to have to worry about these things. A summer festival brings fireworks and a long awaited confession.
