Lady Lunafreya was a perfectly lovely woman. A skilled orator, a talented diplomat, a determined and dedicated humanitarian. She would be a splendid match for Noct. It was just that for some reason her kindness, her help and her healing — particularly while she was recovering from her own injuries — made Ignis want to hide from her like a guilty child.

Noct could see Ignis from the top of the stairs, alone in the kitchen. His hair was a little messier than usual — must have done it himself — and he wasn't wearing gloves. Hadn't since Altissia, and every time Noct noticed he felt weird and startled about seeing Ignis's bare hands, and then shitty when he remembered why. Ignis needed to be able to feel his way around. Like right now. He was... walking back and forth, slowly, his fingertips trailing along the countertop. Stopping every once in awhile to open a cupboard and feel inside before closing it again.

Ignis got as far as setting out the razor and lathering up his face before he lost his nerve. And stood, for a few long moments, the fine porcelain sink smooth under his fingertips while he weighed the risks and benefits of shaving while newly blind.

Ignis drew a breath, and felt his way into a seat at the table. "Did something happen?" Prompto let out a laugh, short and sharp. "You mean besides you and Lady Lunafreya getting hurt and Altissia getting trashed and Noct and Gladio getting in a fight? Nah, can't think of anything."

Or tears. On her right was a faintly familiar young man, eyes wide with concern, his hair a blond mess and his face scattered with freckles.

They would remain at Cape Caem for only a few days, while they waited for the Marshal to bring any news and allowed the Lady Lunafreya to recover from her injuries. Only a few short days for Ignis to learn to navigate in the darkness, before his ability to keep pace with the others would truly be put to the test.He was making his way up the stairs at a blind snail's pace when he heard Gladio raising his voice. And knew, without much thought, that he and Noct were arguing about Ignis.

Noct crawled into bed and lay there for a long time, feeling the Ring sitting heavy in his pocket and trying not to think. Trying not to think of his dad, watching Clarus die and knowing he'd be next. Of something horrible happening to Ignis's eyes while Noct wasn't there to help him. Of Luna, carrying the Ring all this time, working so hard and traveling so far to reach the Chosen King, and finding Noct waiting for her instead, lost and scared and hoping she could tell him what to do.

The trip back to Cape Caem was... it was weird. Gladio was quiet, and Ignis just... sat up straight the whole time, holding himself all stiff and still. Luna seemed to really like having the sun on her face and the wind in her hair, though, and Prompto made it fun.
