The heavenly fallout changes everything in the Winchesters' world. It takes Castiel away from Dean and Sam (especially Dean). Castiel is dealing with the loss of his grace, the haunting memories of what he's done, being hunted by angels, the separation from his friends, and his feelings for Dean. He's drawn back to the Winchesters despite his desire to protect Dean and Sam from the heavenly wrath his choices have provoked. Sam is recovering from the trials, and Dean is, as always, a powderkeg of anger, loyalty, and love. Once Dean and Cas are reunited, they and Sam (along with Charlie, Kevin, & others) work together to figure out how to navigate a world where angels and demons are running amok. I started writing this before the S09 premiere. The timeline takes select S09 events into account yet also takes extreme liberties. Other divergences include there being a little more to the night before the Leviathan attack, after Dean tells Cas he'd rather have him "cursed or not," than we had the pleasure of seeing, & I totally read between the destiel lines in S08. Also, I really try to keep the bamf balance with Dean/Cas. Supernatural belongs to the CW, Kripke, et. al. Thank you for reading!
