Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett+1

a dilettante sort of way

by dotsayers

For all that it retained some prestige as one of the oldest continually operating bookshops in London, A.Z. Fell & Co had an abysmal reputation among the social circles Lord Peter Wimsey had inveigled himself into following the War - being made up primarily of self-proclaimed intellectuals, artistes, and independently wealthy collectors of incunabala, this was perhaps not entirely surprising. Familiarity breeds contempt, or so Peter had heard.“Awful atmosphere,” Marjorie had offered over tea - a fine lapsang souchong as it happened - when Peter was last in Bloomsbury. “Felt as if a leak was about to erupt at any moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner doesn’t keep a tiger caged up somewhere ready to unleash on any unsuspecting fool who actually attempts to buy something.”

“So, you have slain Alduin...Well done. I could have slain him myself, back when I walked the earth, but I chose a different path.” Miraak told you and you held back your urge to roll your eyes at his arrogance. “Then why didn’t you? I’m not oblivious, I can feel the power you have, the soul of a dovah underneath your skin. You’re powerful, so why?” You asked as he sighed in response as he let go of your face. “They wanted to use me to deal with Alduin - Hakon and the rest. I chose otherwise. Do you seriously believe that they would let me live if I had done what they wanted? I would become a bigger threat to them than Alduin was.” Miraak explained, you were pretty sure that was his arrogance speaking again, but you could at least understand where he was coming from. He would definitely become a threat in people’s eyes.“Have you not become dangerous to those around you, Dragonborn?” Miraak asked as you could feel an ever-slight tone of smugness to his words. He wasn’t exactly wrong in that regard.

A Commentary on the Misinterpretation of “Notes on Racial Phylogeny”

by jottingprosaist (jane_potter)

Over a long and storied career, a master of Restoration will meet many myths, misconceptions, and outright lies about health, illness, and the nature of one’s body. The less we say about counterfeit contraceptives and venereal curatives, the better. Yet I take particular umbrage with the persistent misunderstanding of race— specifically, racial phylogeny. The Imperial University’s "Notes on Racial Phylogeny" is now in its seventh edition, and has enormous circulation among academics and laypeople. There may be no more widely read and widely misunderstood book in the medical tradition.

"You're the keeper of knowledge. The unknowable and the unseen." Nadryn pursed his lips. He supposed this was a strange question to ask a Daedric Prince, but it was too late to change his mind now. "Would.. Would you count secret recipes as forbidden knowledge?"

As the Arcs come to a close, the screen lights back up. A new World, a new host, and a new Subaru..? Be it atonement for treating life as disposable or a reward for his determination to save everyone, his soul shone brilliantly enough to manifest in a world beyond his own.
