"Azure" is young gemling, who was taken advantage of by her owner, got pregnant and is now sequestered to a cave under her master's house. Her pragnant belly doesn't permit her to move too much. And her owner is panicked that he will lose his "Azure" and their baby and is desperately searching for someone, anyone with experience with gemlings to help. And Khestler, being a dragonborn and having been a mercenary, hijacking gemlings when they're being moved from mine to mine, definitely counts as experience. So he's hired. And then Khestler is rightly infuriated with "Azure's" treatment and lack of care and abuse and vows to protect her and do whatever it will take to save her, while making sure, she is never touched, never abused again.

And so to revenge his murdered brothers and their sons, Prince Rokujou and his army set out towards Nagachika's prefecture and hide in the nearby mountains to both survey the lands and regroup. However, it still early spring and snowstorms threaten to kill them all. So when all seems lost and bleak, Prince Rokujou makes an unexpected ally. The hybrid daughter of Lord Nagachika himself, who wishes to overthrow her father for her own reasons. And the two form their own alliance. She agrees to help him and his army survive now, he promises to free her of Nagachika and let her inherit her own natural birthright, the mountain range itself. It's the salvation and the help they both need to get out of their current, dire circumstances, but can they walk such a fine line without getting discovered? And are either of them really that sure they can fully trust the other?
