They say destiny is as fragile as butterfly wings; gossamer and wonderous and easy to tear; to blacken and burn under sunlight and long exposure. Once, Lan Wangji would have held within himself the ability to oppose this, shoulders squared, arms racing forth like some storybook warrior: all muscle, no sense. Once, he would not have cared at all for the threats of the masses, the gossiping bloodlust and greed of the interclan heirarchy; would have thought himself stubborn enough to outpace reality itself. Yet, Lan Wangji is barely past his majority, barely out of a war, and he is left bereft of this most fundamental piece of himself. Lan Wangji loses Wei Ying just after the war ends. He deals with that loss as best he can.
