Etho glances out the window. Sure enough, nothing’s changed. The empty void of space surrounds him, broken only by the asteroids in the distance and stars thousands of light years away. “I tried fixing up the ship a little, thought that maybe it would help pass the time until someone comes or…” Etho trailed off, the bleakness of his situation settling over him before he forces himself to breathe–Stranded in space, Etho records logs daily to pass the time, and transmits them out to space without a recipient in mind. Unbeknownst to him, the logs are intercepted by the ship Bdubs is working on.Fic title is from the song "Suffocate" by Hayd!

Etho had only discovered how disliked witches and their familiars were after already setting foot in the town, and with both of them being newcomers, there were too many curious eyes on them from the second they arrived. Bdubs had been riding in owl form on Etho's shoulder for the most recent part of the trip, his tiny form tucked up against the fluff of Etho's hood with his talons tightly gripping the fabric of his magebond's jacket. He had intended to turn back to his human form (or at least an avian one) once they arrived in town.But the signs were clear from the moment they stepped past the border. The banning of witches from most inns and taverns, the refusal of service to hybrids and those of non-overworld descent. They would have to be careful. Right?~ ~ ~ ~ ~OR: When Etho and Bdubs have to spend the night in a town that isn't friendly toward their kind, Bdubs has no choice but to remain in owl form until they get back to their room...and Etho takes (amused) advantage of the situation.

Something is off, he can sense it, and the feeling only grows stronger as they get closer to the snow castle. The roar of the wither is near-deafening, but its screams are pained. Divine static hums in the air. This world should not feel like that, Scott thinks. Grian put wards in place for a reason. They’re supposed to be playing at mortality here, but something - someone - broke through.

“Are you there?” he whispers, not daring to be any louder lest someone unwanted hears him. (That’s why he came back to the snow fort in the first place, after all. Here, no one bothers to visit much.) There’s a long beat of silence. It weighs on Etho’s chest as he questions if his hopes were too high, or if he was becoming delusional. No way this redstone actually works on spirits, there’s no way he actually managed to speak in chat earlier- But then, a whisper back. Etho does a seance, of sorts, and finds the ghost of who he's looking for.

Between the ghostly coma patient haunting his lab and the alien lifeform attempting to take over his body, Etho’s been having a weird week. It only gets weirder when, in order to keep the alien parasite at bay, he must make a deal with the devil for his own survival. Still, it probably could be worse: all Bdubs wants in exchange is for Etho to help him with some math. Etho can handle a little math. False promised Tango that she’ll get what remains of their crew home, but doing so is easier said than done. With half their systems knocked out and no way to make it back to Earth, the Hermethius is on a timer and it’s not looking good. In searching for a second option, she stumbles upon a third: an apparition of a man with powers beyond her comprehension, offering a way out.The Architect of Time is up against the clock. After failing the most important thing he’s ever had to do, he has one last chance to get it right. He cannot fail this time.
