never planned on no one like you

At first glance, nothing looked too off.  At least, nothing to indicate that Jack had been in serious trouble.  Crutchie had seen those looks on his friend before, and this wasn’t it.  He looked tired, but not exhausted.  His movements showed every minute of the day he’d had, but nothing to indicate that he’d been physically hurt.  There was something new on his face, though.  Something that Crutchie had faintly noticed the beginnings of that morning, that told him something had changed.  Someone who didn’t know Jack well might not have detected a thing, but Crutchie knew better.  Crutchie knew when the gears in his friend’s head were turning.

A conversation from Crutchie's perspective after Jack's first day selling with Davey and Les.
