"What are these?"

"Oh, those are Opuntia Pink Frosts, but we can just call them Opuntias. They can withstand both cold and hot environments, and can bear edible fruit," Karl recites from the book of plants his aunt made him look at when he was a young child, just starting to visit the botanical gardens.

"They're really pretty," The man observed, his eyes examining the soft-looking leaves, probably knowing that if he touched them, they would be prickly to the touch.

"Yeah," Karl agreed, but he wasn't looking at the plant.
