Summary
When Tredd wakes, it's to the taste of fire and ash in his mouth. His body aches all over. Breathing run ragged, he tries to shift and can only manage a low gasp of pain when something stabs his spleen. This isn’t unfamiliar, he thinks. He’s been through this once before. Though the differences between then and now was he could hear Pelna screaming his name in his ear. This time there’s nothing but a low cracking and popping of a fire that he can’t tell is either in his ear or too far away to worry about. This time, Pelna is dead.
