Summary
“Once upon a time, there was a fisherman who lived on the beach.” She started, her voice shaking.
Black water was rushing over her head.
“He was lonely, and only lived with his daughter. His daughter was a beautiful young girl, with eyes the color of the sea”
She couldn’t find which way was up.
“Now, his daughters name was Sapphire, and she spent all her time in the ocean. He would joke that she was half fish, and she would always laugh and say ‘I wish’. Now one day, Sapphire was swimming and a storm hit.”
She had heard the angry sky, thunder rumbling in the distance.
“The waves dragged her under, and her father thought she had drowned.”
She slipped into the inky black abyss, the ocean as dark as the sky.
“When she woke up, she was underwater, and she had suddenly become…. A mermaid.” The kids gasped and Sophie forced an uneasy smile. “She met a prince, and they talked for a while.”
Hands pushed her towards the surface.
“After a few days, they fell in love.” Sophie ignored Amy’s retching noises in the background.
She gasped and spluttered, until a wave crashed over her.
