On a Dragon's Wing

Namjoon remembered watching the dragons fly every morning as one of his earliest memories. He sat on his bedroom window ledge just after dawn, the sky painted with vivid pinks and oranges over the mountain, and watched the dragons' dark silhouettes against the bright clouds. He lived close enough to the base of the Sandia’s to hear the low rumble of the dragon’s fiery breath, sometimes dipping low to swoop past his village, sending the trees swaying with the force of wind. Every year on his birthday, he made the same wish: that someday he would be chosen to be a rider.
