The Royal Alchemist and the Princess of the Sun

Varian was only ten when his father, along with many other loyal citizens of Corona set off to find the miracle flower. They did, however many died or went missing in the search. Quirin had not been seen since then, leaving Varian in the care of his good friend, King Fredrick. The one who ordered the search. Varian was heartbroken. Less than a year later, the princess was kidnapped and Varian was the only child in the palace, leaving the king to debate adopting him as a backup if Rapunzel was never found. Varian hated the idea to the point he threatened to run away from Corona itself and never return, Fredrick begrudging subsided. Thankfully, 18 years later the 'princess of the sun' had returned home. Varian had spent most of that time kept to himself, up in a tower that hosted his bedroom/workshop. Most people thought the man was crazy, albeit a genius, but Varian never cared much for other people anyways. Despite Fredrick's attempts to get closer to his unofficially adopted son, Varian built up walls and actively avoided him, even after he was promoted to royal alchemist at 18, the legal age of adulthood. Rapunzel is determined to break down those walls and meet the true Varian, but that doesn't mean it will be easy.
