The School Monster

Summer ended.Michael’s grief had not.He feared the thought of going back to school, like nothing happened.He hadn’t spoken to his friends since the day Evan finally died. He wasn’t sure he wanted to talk to them anyway.His mum had to force him out of bed.“You’ll be okay…your teachers understand. It’ll be like when Elizabeth went missing.”She tried to encourage him as she gave him his breakfast. Michael still could not look her in the eyes, he couldn’t meet his father’s cold gaze either.It should have been him. “Just…do your best, alright?” His mother passed him his bag on the way out. He nodded, still in a daze.
