Summary
"Good-bye, Laika. Have a good trip. I hope you see something beautiful..." Russia kissed the dog's nose, knowing she wouldn't be coming back. Yazdovsky closed the hatch as Russia stepped back, unable to bring himself to be the one to seal the dog's fate. This was all for science, he had to remember as Laika was launched into space. For science... Science didn't make it any less painful. (This story is about the Soviet Union's decision to launch Laika the Space Dog in 1957. Historically accurate as best as I could be with notes at the bottom.)
