But it’s not like Steve had somehow fallen in love with Eddie within the handful of days that he knew him, really knew him, it’s the more that he really thinks about it, thinks about them and everything they had the potential to grow into together, he really feels like he could’ve. It fucking destroys him. Feels pretty goddamn grossly on par with the bats choking him out and gnawing away at his core and thinking this was finally the end for him, after everything he’s done. He always comes back to the thought that it should’ve been, it was the end for Eddie. He wasn’t any more special than Eddie, he knows this. Knows it all too well.
