Steve was given a deadline. He had one year in his childhood home in Hawkins, then he had to move out and live on his own; support himself like a “real man.” He doesn’t have the money, he doesn’t have a future; he doesn’t have anything anymore. Except for them. So Steve does what he does best and he decides to play the hero. He doesn’t know what will become of him but he knows that he wants the people he loves, the people with a shot, the people who matter, to be okay. Who cares if he isn’t? It’s not about him. It never has been.
