Summary
In the morning, her mom had made her waffles with extra whipped cream and blueberries, and Steph swirled them all around on her plate till the whipped cream turned a pretty lavender color, and her mom said she was sorry she fell asleep. Steph told her that was okay. Sometimes she gets tired, too, like when they went to that carnival and she fell asleep in the car with cotton candy melted all sticky over her hands. The waffles Mom gives her are always kinda gritty, and Steph has to chew extra hard to get through the outside bits, but she likes them anyway, with the purple whipped cream she mixes up all smushed into the grid with her fork. Some people out there might make better waffles, but nobody makes waffles like her mom’s.
