The Silence Between

Jack thinks he’d like to be something fleeting in other people’s lives. Something quiet, ephemeral. He imagines being like raindrops meeting the earth, or autumn leaves you might occasionally tread upon on a crisp, chilly morning heading to work.

Or perhaps something usually overlooked: the bitterness of medicine taken in haste, the dust settling on a forgotten shelf, or the locked room someone leaves behind, out of sight and easy to forget.
