Summary

October, 1961

Coach says something about talking to Darry's parents, but all Darry can focus on is how close Paul is sitting to him, the way he gently grabs Darry's chin to make sure his eyes are alright, and how he takes Darry's hand and holds it up in victory when he finally stands back up. ________________________________ July, 1964 Darry slams his hand down on the dashboard, tears running down his face. He rakes a hand through his hair before pressing his head against the steering wheel. He wants to scream, to go back to Paul and deck him, to find the part of him that still wants to kiss Paul and bury it.

But he can’t. He can’t do any of it.

He sits in the parking lot until the sun sets before wiping his face and driving home. ________________________________ 8 snapshots of Paul and Darry, from 1961 to 1965.
