She was pretty enough, always had been, but in a subdued way. She didn't turn heads when she walked in the room; she was lovely but not sexy or alluring like other girls. Growing up, she'd been more comfortable sitting on the sidelines while her peers took the spotlight, got the guys, got their happily-ever-afters.
